Happy New Year from all of us at Dungog Cinema. To see what is currently showing, please visit the Now Showing page. The Dungog Cinema generally operates Friday nights, Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons/nights, and runs full-time through school holidays. Dungog is a special place to visit anytime - great accommodation places can be found on our links page - and don't forget to pop in and have a look at the cinema, maybe catch a movie. The cinema, known as the James Theatre, is located at 6 Brown Street in Dungog, NSW Australia, and is the oldest still running purpose-built cinema in Australia! It is the centre of activities during the highly acclaimed Dungog Film Festival, which is held annually in autumn and is a non-competitive showcase of new and old Australian features and shorts. We have an active Film Society that runs each month an interesting arthouse movie. More information on the history of the cinema can be found on the History page. The cinema building is owned by the Dungog Shire Council, and is run and managed by Brett and Kim Hopson. For a behind the scenes look at how the cinema is run, and how the projection and sound systems work, have a look at the Behind The Scenes page.
