About the event

Climate Choices series

In this Climate Choices series of talks you will hear from people who know what they are talking about: scientists, engineers, farmers & food producers, policy advisers, health, water, fire and weather experts. If you are interested in your & the environment's future and that of the generations to come there will be something to learn and act on in a space where you can freely & safely ask questions.

Our first speakers will be starting with the basics: climate facts and weather predictions.

Talk #1 Sunday 5 July 2-4pm in the historic James Theatre Dungog

Climate facts, consequences & choices ahead

Dr Dennys Angove will guide us through the science of modern climate change. A retired CSIRO atmospheric scientist who studied the effect of fossil fuel emissions on urban air quality, Dennys has lectured at UTS (Environmental Chemistry) & UNSW (Managing Greenhouse Gas Emissions). He is a director of the Citizen Climate Lobby & given evidence to the NSW Joint Standing Committee on Net Zero.

Graham Creed will talk us through weather science, modelling & forecasting & provide a suite of tools for long-term planning — so we can move beyond simply reacting to disasters & instead build safer, stronger, and more sustainable societies for future generations. Graham started at the Bureau of Meteorology before moving into television and now community education. He has over 30 years of experience in weather communication.

The talks will be followed by a Q&A panel discussion and then afternoon tea.
