Stories we Tell at the James Sunday 27 April 7pm

stories-we-tell-125‘Stories we Tell,’ directed by Sarah Polley, looks at her family including her parents, revealing that Sarah was the product of an extramarital affair between her mother, who died of cancer when Sarah was only 10, and Montreal producer Harry Gulkin. It incorporates interviews with Sarah’s siblings from her mother’s two marriages, interviews with other relatives and family friends, her father’s narration of his memoir, and footage shot to look like home movies of historical events in her family’s life. The film has won several awards; and has been described as “a brilliant film: an enthralling, exquisitely layered masterpiece of memoir that unravels an extraordinary world of family secrets through a maze of interviews, home movies, and faux home movies cast with actors. For film society members, but also a fascinating film for anyone to see. Only $12 or $7 for those with a subscription.
